Beyond has closed. Your will is almost certainly still valid — here's what to do.

The online will-writer at beyond.life has ceased trading — its closure notice asked customers and charity partners to make contact by 30 June 2025, and Companies House records show BEYOND.LIFE LTD was dissolved on 30 August 2024.

If you made your will with Beyond, the company's closure does not invalidate the will. A properly signed and witnessed will remains legally valid in England & Wales no matter what happens to the company that helped write it.

What you may have lost is everything around the document — storage, updates, and the plan for your executors to find it.

§1

What actually happened.

The online will-writer at beyond.life has closed. Visitors to its site now find a closure notice — "Beyond is shutting its doors" — asking customers and charity partners to make contact by 30 June 2025. Companies House records show the company itself, BEYOND.LIFE LTD, was dissolved on 30 August 2024.

That is the whole known story, and this page won't speculate beyond it. Companies close; what matters now is entirely practical: where is your will, and does it still say what you want?

Different company

Beyond Wills Ltd of Ruislip — an SRA-registered firm — is a different, unrelated business and is still trading. If your will was made with them, nothing on this page applies to you.

§2

Is my will still valid?

Yes — a properly executed will does not die with the company that helped write it. Validity in England & Wales comes from the Wills Act 1837 formalities: the will is in writing, signed by you, and witnessed by two people present at the same time. A closed company cannot un-sign your will.

What the closure genuinely puts at risk is everything around the document:

The original.

A will is proved from the signed original, not a PDF. Do you physically hold it? If Beyond stored it, establishing what happened to stored documents is your first job.

The updates.

Any subscription or update service died with the company. Nothing is now watching whether your will still matches your life.

The findability.

If the plan was "the company has it," your executors' map is gone.

§3

The three things to do this month.

1
Locate the signed original.

Check your own papers first; if Beyond held it, use the contact route in the closure notice. Until the original is in your hands or a known safe place, treat this as unfinished.

2
Read it once against your life today.

Marriage since signing? (That alone usually revokes a will — see our guide to does marriage revoke a will.) Divorce, new children, a new home, an executor who has died or drifted away? Any of these means the document has quietly stopped matching your intentions.

3
Make it findable.

Register its existence and location with the National Will Register, and tell your executors where it is. From 13 July 2026 you can also deposit the will itself with the Probate Registry for a one-off £24 fee — the official strong-box option.

§4

If it's time to redo it.

If the original can't be found, the safest course is a new will. A copy can sometimes be proved, but that is a court process with no guaranteed outcome — a fresh will, properly executed, revokes and replaces the lost one cleanly and ends the uncertainty.

A Valoren will is £149 single or £229 for mirror wills — and it includes 12 months of Will Watch, the annual check that your will still matches your life. Not because the document was the problem — because the plan around the document was.

FAQ

Beyond's closure, answered.

For safekeeping, no.

Probate is granted on the signed original; a copy can sometimes be admitted by the court, but it is an application with evidence, not a formality. If the original can't be located, the clean fix is a new will, which revokes the old one entirely.
Use the contact route in the closure notice at the old beyond.life address.

Valoren has no access to Beyond's records and cannot retrieve documents for you — anyone claiming otherwise should be treated with caution.
No.

The law doesn't care who typed the document — it cares that it was signed and witnessed correctly and that it fits your estate. Where an online will can fall short is fit, not form: complex estates need advice no template provides.
Once a year, it walks your will against what changed in your life — marriage, moves, births, deaths among your named people — and tells you plainly: stands or needs updating.

It's included free for 12 months with every Valoren will, then £8.99/yr.
